Ribadu quietly sidelined under Tinubu over US visit – Atiku’s aide alleges

Allegations Surface of Rift Between President Tinubu and NSA Ribadu

Paul Ibe, the media aide to Atiku Abubakar, a presidential aspirant representing the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has suggested that National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu is being sidelined by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Concerns have arisen following the recent appointment of Retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Homeland Security. This move has led to discussions among Nigerians regarding its implications for the role of the National Security Adviser, with some speculating a potential conflict between the two offices.

In comments posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Ibe asserted that there appears to be a significant disconnect between Tinubu and Ribadu. He stated that Ribadu’s office has been “quietly sidelined” amid these developments.

Ibe tied the purported tensions to Ribadu’s recent trip to the United States, where he met with U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Ibe claimed that the visibility of Ribadu’s meetings, which were featured in several newspapers, may have further complicated his standing with the president.

“It is no longer news that NSA Nuhu Ribadu has been quietly sidelined, and that a son of the soil, Retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa, has been appointed in his stead as Special Adviser on Homeland Security,” Ibe wrote.

He referenced an article by Mohammed Bello Doka, emphasizing the implications of Ribadu’s U.S. visit and the perceived political ramifications of his efforts to publicize the meetings.

This assertion comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the government’s security policies and the evolving structure of national security leadership.
