OSOGBO, Nigeria — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a warning regarding threats to peace and security in Ikirun, directing law enforcement to intervene following reports of harassment against community leaders.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor raised alarm over incidents of intimidation involving kingmakers and other prominent citizens in the town. The statement emphasized that such developments could jeopardize the area’s current state of tranquility.
Sources in Ikirun have reported that certain leaders sent distress messages alleging harassment by unidentified security personnel since early Thursday morning. Governor Adeleke underscored the importance of addressing these allegations promptly to prevent escalating tensions and to maintain public order.
“I direct the state police command to protect kingmakers and halt the reported harassment of leaders in the town,” Governor Adeleke said in the statement. “We must not jeopardize the prevailing peace in the town.”
The governor urged security agencies to ensure the safety of residents, the royal palace, and all stakeholders in Ikirun. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order across Osun State while upholding the rights of all citizens.
