Uba Sani advises pharmacists to wage war on quacks

Governor Urges Pharmacists to Protect Their Profession

Kaduna, Nigeria — Governor Uba Sani urged pharmacists to safeguard their profession from quackery to ensure a robust healthcare delivery system for the public. He made these comments while attending the public presentation of a book commemorating the 70th birthday of Professor Ahmed Tijani Mora, a distinguished pharmacist, at Hotel 17 in Kaduna.

Represented by his Principal Private Secretary, Professor Bello Ayuba, the governor emphasized the importance of oversight across various health professions to enhance the overall healthcare system.

Governor Sani praised Professor Mora as a significant figure in pharmacy whose contributions will endure. He highlighted the book, titled Professor Ahmed Tijjani Mora: A Pillar of Pharmacy Regulation in Nigeria, as a vital resource that will convey the professor’s insights to future generations.

“His commitment to teaching, mentorship, and leadership over more than five decades deserves recognition,” the governor noted.

During his address, Governor Sani also reviewed his administration’s achievements in the healthcare sector. He announced that 255 Primary Healthcare Centres had been upgraded to Level 2 status, ensuring at least one center in each ward of Kaduna State. Additionally, he reported the commissioning of the 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital, which is now operational after being previously abandoned.

The governor mentioned that 15 general hospitals across the state have also been enhanced, contributing to the strengthening of secondary healthcare services.

He highlighted initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of health workers, including the implementation of the CONHESS and CONMESS salary scales. Furthermore, Sani reported significant advancements in infrastructure and rural development during his three years in office.

In education, he noted the construction of 62 new science secondary schools, along with efforts to refurbish existing facilities, leading to better student performance in national examinations.

Governor Sani also discussed agricultural support for farmers, stating that smallholder farmers have received free fertilizers for two consecutive years. He emphasized that a key achievement of his administration has been fostering peace and stability in the state.

“We have not recorded a single incident of religious or communal conflict in the past three years,” he said, explaining how this has created a favorable environment for trade and investment.

The prevailing peace, according to the governor, has enabled the development of legacy projects such as Mass Transit Buses and Terminal projects and three Skills Acquisition Centres located in Soba, Rigachukun, and Samarun Kataf.
