Ibadan Man Charged with Assaulting Ex-Wife
IBADAN — Olaniyi Fakeye, a 46-year-old resident, appeared in a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court on Tuesday, facing charges related to the alleged assault of his ex-wife with a broken bottle.
Fakeye is charged with two counts, including breach of peace and assault, to which he has pleaded not guilty. The case was brought forward by the police following an incident reported to have occurred on March 25 at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the staff quarters of the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Prosecuting counsel Insp. Ayodele Ayeni alleged that Fakeye attacked his former spouse, Bosede, stabbing her in the shoulder and inflicting serious injuries.
The charges against him fall under Sections 249 and 355 of Oyo State’s Criminal Code, as outlined in its 2000 laws.
In court, Mrs. S. M. Akintayo, the presiding judge, granted Fakeye bail set at 200,000 Naira, requiring two sureties of similar financial standing. The sureties must also provide valid identification to fulfill the bail conditions.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 11.
