Abubakar Calls for Political Engagement Without Bitterness

MINNA, Niger State — Former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar urged Nigerians on Wednesday to engage in politics without animosity, emphasizing that such an approach is crucial for the emergence of credible leadership and national development.

Abubakar made the remarks after participating in the two-raka’at Eid-el-Kabir prayer at the Minna Eid praying ground, where he commemorated the celebration with fellow Muslim faithful.

He underscored the importance of peace for genuine progress, calling on Nigerians of all backgrounds to continue praying for unity and stability within the country.

The former leader also prayed for divine intervention to achieve lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria, asserting that overcoming national challenges requires collective effort and mutual understanding.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, who also attended the prayers, encouraged Muslims to utilize the Eid period for seeking forgiveness and praying for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

Bago expressed optimism about the future, asserting that Nigeria has the capabilities to surmount its challenges through love, respect, and a shared commitment. He urged citizens to maintain hope amid difficulties.

Among the dignitaries present were former Niger State Governor Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, Emir of Minna Umar Faruk Bahago, and Mohammed Ibrahim Babangida, son of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida. Additionally, the Commissioner of Police in Niger State, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, along with state executive council members and other government officials, were in attendance.

The Eid prayer was led by Malam Habibu Mai Basira.
