High Court Orders Remand of Former Police Officer and Four Others in Extrajudicial Killing Case

ASABA, Delta State — A High Court has ordered the remand of former Assistant Superintendent of Police Usman Nuhu and four others at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre over the extrajudicial killing of 28-year-old Oghenemene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.

The defendants appeared in court on Monday, facing charges related to Ogidi’s shooting on April 26, 2026. The incident, which drew significant public outrage following the circulation of a video on social media, has now prompted legal actions against the involved officers.

The case is under Charge No. DTHC/ASB/CR/M/66/2026, presided over by Justice Marshall Onome Umukoro. During the hearing, the judge ordered the defendants to remain in custody for 15 working days while awaiting legal advice from the Delta State Attorney-General. The court also mandated that subsequent proceedings be conducted virtually.

The shooting of Ogidi, known by the stage name OG Millan, has attracted national attention, prompting the Nigeria Police Force to initiate disciplinary actions against the officers following an investigation. The Inspector-General of Police approved their dismissal and recommended criminal prosecution, citing serious violations of police operational procedures regarding the use of firearms.

Rights groups, the public, and Ogidi’s family continue to closely monitor the prosecution, pressing for justice and accountability in what has become a focal point in discussions around police conduct in the country.
