Yobe Police record 152 convictions, arrest 448 suspects in one year
Yobe State Police Report Major Operational Achievements
Damaturu, Yobe State — The Yobe State Police Command announced significant operational success this year, handling 407 criminal cases and securing 152 convictions. Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin shared these updates during a press briefing on Thursday at the Command Headquarters.
The cases addressed included 31 murders, 35 rapes, eight kidnappings, 11 armed robberies, and 322 other offenses. In connection with these crimes, the police arrested a total of 448 suspects.
Currently, 127 cases are pending in courts, while 69 remain unresolved. Additionally, 17 case files await legal advice, and 42 cases resulted in acquittals.
Highlighting specific achievements, Jibrin noted the discovery of a suspected drug warehouse in Potiskum, where authorities arrested an alleged drug baron. They recovered eight cartons of assorted illicit drugs, 1.5 bags of Tramadol and Exzol tablets, and 835,500 naira believed to be proceeds from drug trafficking.
The police faced resistance from members of the drug syndicate and are continuing efforts to apprehend any accomplices who fled the scene.
In further operations, coordinated raids on criminal hideouts and drug-related locations in the Jakusko Local Government Area led to the arrest of 14 individuals suspected of drug dealing and usage. Authorities confiscated over 300 sachets and packages containing Tramadol, Indian hemp, Vega tablets, and other illegal substances.
Commissioner Jibrin reaffirmed the command’s commitment to evidence-based policing, proactive crime prevention, and ensuring the safety of residents and their property.
