Delta State High Court Sentences Two to Death for Murder of Student
Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State — A Delta State High Court has sentenced Desmond Macaulay Oghenemaro and Enaike Onoriode to death by hanging for the murder of Elozino Ogege, a student at Delta State University in Abraka. The judgment was delivered on Thursday, July 29, by Justice F. N. Azinge.
The court acquitted a third defendant, Nwonsisi Benedict Uche, of all eight charges against him.
Elozino Ogege was murdered in a brutal attack in 2018, with reports indicating her heart was mutilated and her eyes removed. This case has lingered for nearly eight years, drawing attention to the severity of the crime.
During the trial, it was revealed that a herbalist involved in the case, who had allegedly instructed the suspects to seek human parts for financial gain, died in custody before the trial concluded.
The prosecution was led by Omamuzo Erebe, the Solicitor-General of Delta State, along with his legal team.
In response to the verdict, Comrade Kelvin Ejumudo, a Senior Special Assistant on Human Rights to the Delta State Governor, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision. He remarked that “justice delayed is not justice denied,” adding that the ruling reflects the collective voice of the community.
Ejumudo, who also serves as the National Secretary of the Human Rights Protection Congress, commended the efforts of the Solicitor-General, the Nigeria Police Force, and the media in advocating for justice in this matter.
