Amotekun secures conviction for two over stolen road project materials

Two Men Sentenced to One Year in Prison for Theft at Ilesa Road Construction Site

Ilesa, Osun State — A Magistrate Court in Ilesa has sentenced Damilare Oladunjoye and Azeez Ibironke to one year in prison for stealing iron rods from a federal road construction site along the Ilesa-Ibadan Expressway.

Magistrate Adedokun Ayeni of the Ilesa Division found the two men guilty on charges of theft. Their arrest occurred during a routine midnight patrol by the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps on Monday, as reported by the agency’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass.

The patrol team observed Oladunjoye and Ibironke riding a motorcycle while transporting iron rods concealed in a sack. Upon noticing the Amotekun patrol vehicle, the suspects attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the defendants confessed to stealing the iron rods from the construction site. They also admitted to previous thefts of construction materials from the same location.

According to their confessions, they sold the stolen iron rods to a scrap dealer for ₦35,000, splitting the proceeds between them.

Following investigations, the men were arraigned in court on June 2, 2026. The prosecution, led by Oyedele Akintayo, Legal Adviser for the Osun Amotekun Corps, charged them with three counts of theft, which violates Osun State law.

The court convicted both men and imposed concurrent one-year imprisonment sentences.
