Lagos environmental taskforce clears 1004 estate, discovers drugs, cash cache

Ongoing Clearance Operations at 1004 Housing Estate in Lagos
LAGOS — Clearance operations are currently underway at the 1004 Housing Estate as part of ongoing efforts to uphold environmental sanitation, restore order, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced the initiative in a statement on Wednesday. The operation targets the removal of obstructions, addressing environmental nuisances, and facilitating unobstructed movement for both pedestrians and vehicles in the area.
“Operatives are actively clearing obstructions and addressing activities that impede the free flow of pedestrian and vehicular traffic within the estate,” Wahab stated.
During these operations, law enforcement officials reported the discovery and seizure of illicit drugs, cash, and other potentially dangerous items.
The statement emphasized that the clearance efforts aim to enhance cleanliness, safety, and the overall aesthetic appeal of the estate while fostering a healthier environment for residents and visitors.
Authorities noted that monitoring and enforcement activities will persist throughout the duration of the operation to ensure continued compliance and to prevent future environmental violations.
