Muzaffarabad, Pakistan-administered Kashmir — A military helicopter crash near the capital has resulted in the deaths of all personnel aboard, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) office.

The ISPR reported that an Mi-17 helicopter belonging to army aviation went down during takeoff due to a “technical fault.” The exact number of casualties has not been disclosed. In a statement, the ISPR confirmed that “all personnel on board embraced martyrdom” and there were no survivors. Rescue and recovery teams quickly arrived at the crash site, and a board of inquiry has been established to determine the precise cause of the accident.

Recent days have seen a significant security presence in Muzaffarabad amid rising tensions, following a local government decision to ban a protest movement under antiterrorism laws. Demonstrations are anticipated as members of the movement prepare to take action.

On Sunday, clashes erupted between police and protesters in Rawalakot, the capital of Poonch district, resulting in at least 11 fatalities. In response, authorities in Pakistan-administered Kashmir have deployed federal paramilitary troops and issued a stringent travel advisory for the region.
