Police Declare Five Suspects Wanted Amid Political Violence

OSOGBO — The Osun State Police Command has issued a wanted notice for five individuals in connection with recent political violence in the state. This announcement follows rising tensions that have resulted in multiple fatalities, including the death of a teenager in Ilobu.
In a statement, police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi condemned the violence and property destruction occurring in the region. The individuals cited in the announcement include Dauda Olamilekan, also known as “Emir,” Taoreed, nicknamed “Small Rugged,” Adetunji Kamoru Olatunde, Saka Afees, known as “Terror,” and Adeyemi Saheed. The police are urging residents to provide any information regarding these suspects and to report criminal activities to local authorities.
Accord Party Backs Tinubu for 2027 Presidential Election
In a related political development, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and the national leadership of the Accord Party have endorsed President Bola Tinubu as their candidate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election. The announcement was made following a meeting on Saturday night in Osogbo, where party leaders discussed various pressing issues.
Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for Adeleke’s re-election campaign, emphasized the importance of completing infrastructure projects initiated by the Tinubu administration. These include significant projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road and the Sokoto-Badagry highway. The meeting also addressed concerns about the forthcoming August governorship election, with participants warning against violence and electoral malpractice.
Non-Indigenous Residents Show Support for Adeleke
Additionally, non-indigenous residents from the South, Benue, and Plateau states residing in Osun have expressed their support for Governor Adeleke’s re-election. This affirmation of commitment to the governor’s continued tenure took place during a town hall meeting in Ede, organized by Mr. Nworie Monday Michael, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Non-Indigenes.
Oyebamiji Urges Christians to Evaluate Candidates on Competence
Bola Oyebamiji, the governorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on Christian voters to prioritize candidate competence over religious affiliation. Speaking at the Winners Chapel in Osogbo, Oyebamiji emphasized the importance of active civic engagement in the political process, urging citizens to make informed decisions based on integrity and capability.
He reiterated that, although he identifies as a Muslim, he values the constitutional principles that uphold religious freedoms and equal rights for all Nigerians. Oyebamiji asserted his commitment to governance guided by the rule of law and fairness.
Uzodimma to Lead APC’s State Campaign Council
The APC has appointed Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as chairman of its new 276-member National Campaign Council for the Osun State governorship election. In a statement, the party’s National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, outlined that the council comprises distinguished party leaders and stakeholders from across the country.
To facilitate effective campaign operations, the APC has also established several specialized subcommittees tasked with diverse roles, including election planning, finance, grassroots engagement, logistics, and media relations. This organizational structure aims to ensure a comprehensive and well-coordinated campaign effort as the election approaches.
