Bandit Attack in Kogi State Claims Three Lives, Three Students Kidnapped

ILUKE, Kogi State — The Iluke community in the Bunu District of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area experienced chaos on Wednesday morning as armed bandits attacked, resulting in the deaths of a school vice principal and two other individuals. Three students were also reported kidnapped during the incident.

Witnesses indicated that the assault occurred in the early hours, causing widespread mourning and raising serious concerns regarding the safety of residents in the region. The students who were taken were preparing to take the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) English Language paper on the day of the attack.

In response to the situation, the Kogi State Government confirmed that security operatives had thwarted an attempted mass abduction during the event. Kingsley Fanwo, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, reported that the attackers had disguised themselves in military uniforms to infiltrate the community.

According to government sources, the attack resulted in the deaths of three community members, although security forces managed to rescue students who were allegedly being abducted by the attackers.

“The unfortunate attack led to the death of three members of the community. The government extends its heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the people of Iluke Community, and the entire Bunu District over this painful loss,” the statement from the commissioner read.
