Senate denies Oshiomhole’s forgery allegation over Natasha’s suspension

Nigerian Senate Denies Allegations of Forgery in Lawmaker’s Suspension
The Nigerian Senate has refuted claims made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole regarding the suspension of Kogi Central lawmaker Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, alleged during a recent interview on AIT that the signatures of at least three senators were forged in the process that led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension.
Senate spokesperson Senator Yemi Adaramodu characterized Oshiomhole’s claims as unfounded, asserting that no senator’s signature was forged during the proceedings. “That is not true. Signatures forged, over what?” Adaramodu questioned in response to the allegations.
Oshiomhole further claimed that some senators had confided in him that they neither signed the document nor endorsed its recommendations. In a statement on Tuesday, Adaramodu dismissed these assertions, describing them as peculiar and without merit. He also addressed concerns involving Senator Ireti Kingibe, stating that she had not raised any complaints regarding the issue.
Adaramodu emphasized the independence of senators, asserting that they would speak out against any wrongdoing. “Nobody will say that he or she was coerced or that someone’s signature was forged; that has never happened in the Senate and it cannot happen,” he said, highlighting the maturity of the senators involved.
The Senate spokesman indicated that the chamber would evaluate Oshiomhole’s comments and decide on an appropriate course of action. “We are going to look into it and take a stand. But no senator has reported that his or her signature was forged during the Natasha matter,” he noted.
Adaramodu underscored that the issue had been openly debated during plenary, with the public able to witness the procedures followed by the Senate. He reaffirmed that the Senate acted in accordance with its established rules and protocols.
