Abia 2027: Show one project in Ohafia, I’ll quit guber race, ADC candidate tells Otti

By Bayo Wahab

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for Abia State, Kalu Kalu, has challenged Governor Alex Otti to present a single project completed by his administration in Ohafia Local Government Area. Kalu declared he would withdraw from the gubernatorial race if such a project could be identified.

During an interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Friday, Kalu, a resident of Ohafia, alleged that the local government has received over 16 billion naira in allocations over the past three and a half years without any noticeable projects from the state government.

“I am from Ohafia LG of Abia State, and I’m placing it on record that my local government has received over 16 billion naira in the past three and a half years,” Kalu stated.

He urged Arise TV to visit Ohafia and question Governor Otti and his aides regarding any projects carried out for the community. “Let Alex Otti and his handlers show your station any project that his government has done for the people of Ohafia Local Government. Not one,” he asserted.

Kalu further claimed that Ohafia has been without electricity for nearly ten years, indicating a prolonged lack of power supply in the area. “Close to 10 years running, my local government or Ohafia Local Government has not seen any electricity anywhere,” he remarked.

When asked about his plans for Abia residents if elected, Kalu emphasized a commitment to restoring hope among the youth and creating opportunities that would encourage them to remain in the state instead of seeking better prospects abroad. He highlighted the current hardships that have diminished young people’s confidence in Nigeria’s future, including those residing in Abia.

“Our young people do not have hope again in this country. They all believe that the greener pasture is outside the shores of this country,” Kalu said.

Despite this, he expressed optimism that his administration could help shift this mindset, suggesting that young people in Abia would find opportunities within the state. “By the grace of God, on the 29th day of May 2027, I will reveal the thinking, first of all, of the young people in Abia State that they don’t need to leave Abia to go to any place for greener pastures,” he added.
