Troops recover rusted livestock, arrest suspected bandits in Kaduna

Nigerian Army Reports Successful Operations Against Banditry in Kaduna State
The Nigerian Army announced significant operational successes by troops from Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, under Operation Fansan Yamma, in Kaduna State.
According to a statement released by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the JTF North West, the military has effectively disrupted criminal activities, apprehended suspected bandits, recovered stolen livestock, and restored order in impacted communities.
On June 20, 2026, troops acted on credible intelligence regarding cattle rustling in a Kaduna community. Engaging the fleeing suspects led to a firefight in which two suspected bandits were neutralized. During this operation, the military recovered weapons, ammunition, and the stolen livestock.
The intervention, though successful in recovering the animals, resulted in the death of one civilian, who was killed during the incident.
In a related operation on the same day, troops apprehended two additional suspected bandits during a night patrol. A subsequent search revealed incriminating digital materials linking the suspects to banditry and terrorism. They are currently in custody for further investigation.
The Army also reported that on June 21, 2026, while conducting a fighting patrol, troops encountered armed criminals. The suspects retreated into the bush, but two were apprehended. The military recovered motorcycles and communication devices containing evidence of their criminal activities. Investigations are ongoing.
Additionally, on the same date, troops responded to a civil disturbance in the Mararraba community, following a mob killing of a female suspect accused of child trafficking. The crowd attempted to attack public facilities and block a major highway. However, the timely arrival of security forces allowed troops to restore order, disperse the mob, and ensure the safety of commuters.
The Army emphasized its commitment to maintaining public order and security in the region.
