2026 World Cup: FIFA hands Madibo five-match ban

Qatar Midfielder Assim Madibo Suspended for Five Games Following Serious Foul Play
Qatar national team midfielder Assim Madibo has been suspended for five matches by FIFA’s disciplinary committee due to a serious foul play incident involving Canadian player Ismael Kone during the recent 2026 World Cup match.
The foul, which occurred during Qatar’s 6-0 defeat last Thursday, resulted in Kone sustaining fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his left leg. Madibo received a red card for the tackle.
Kone, who is currently a member of the Italian club Sassuolo, underwent surgery immediately following the injury in Vancouver. Following the incident, Madibo visited Kone in the hospital.
While he has been issued a five-game ban, Madibo has the option to appeal the decision.
