Nigerian Actor Joseph Momodu Joins U.S. Army
Joseph Momodu, a prominent Nigerian actor, has announced his departure from acting to enlist in the United States Army. The news was shared on his Instagram account over the weekend, following his recent relocation to the U.S.
In his post, Momodu described his military training as the fulfillment of a long-held dream. He dedicated his enlistment to his late father, who served in the Nigeria Police Force for many years before his death two decades ago.
“On April 12, 2026, I honored my late father in a historic way. Twenty years after his passing, I picked up the baton where he left off in the Nigeria Police Force and carried it forward by getting enlisted into the United States Army,” he wrote.
Despite facing moments of doubt during his training, Momodu emphasized his determination to stay focused on his goals.
Currently, he holds the rank of Specialist (SPC) J.A. Momodu and serves with the 1st Platoon, Charlie Company, 3-10, 3rd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Momodu is among several actors from Nigeria’s Nollywood who have made similar career transitions, including Mayowa Dosu and Grace-Charis Bassey.
