Kebbi: ASUU declares two-week warning strike over unresolved issues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Federal University of Agriculture, Zuru (ASUU-FUAZ), has announced a two-week warning strike, citing the Governing Council’s failure to address key issues related to the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU agreement.

The decision was revealed in a statement issued Tuesday by ASUU-FUAZ Chairperson Comrade Danbauchi Ishaq Sanchi, following a 21-day ultimatum previously set by the union to prompt action from the university’s Governing Council. The union reported that no significant response or measures had been undertaken by the Council to resolve the outstanding issues.

The warning strike is scheduled to commence at midnight on August 18, during which all academic activities at the university will be halted. This includes the suspension of lectures, examinations, continuous assessments, and the supervision of student projects and theses. Meetings of the Senate and Faculty Board will also be affected.

ASUU stated that the decision to strike was not made lightly, emphasizing the necessity of addressing unresolved matters related to academic staff welfare and the overall function of academic programs. The union expressed regret over the potential disruption this action could cause to students and other members of the university community.

Despite the strike, ASUU indicated its willingness to engage in dialogue, maintaining that constructive discussions with relevant authorities could lead to a resolution of the dispute.
