Troops rescue 14 kidnapped victims in Katsina
KATSINA, Nigeria — Troops from Operation Fansan Yamma rescued 14 individuals during a confrontation with terrorists in Sabuwa Local Government Area on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The operation occurred near Madaci Forest following intelligence regarding the terrorists’ movements.
Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for Operation Fansan Yamma, reported that the troops swiftly deployed to the area and engaged the armed attackers. “The troops made contact with the terrorists, compelling them to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bushes,” he said.
Following the conflict, the troops conducted a search of the area, successfully locating and rescuing 14 victims—six males and eight females. Preliminary investigations indicated that the kidnapped individuals had been taken from various locations, including Dandume, Bakori, and Funtua, within Katsina State.
The rescued individuals were subsequently handed over to local authorities for further assistance and to facilitate their reunification with family members.
Danja emphasized the commitment of the troops to protect the local communities and thwart terrorist activities in the region. “The Theatre Command reassures the public that the troops will continue to exert pressure on terrorist elements and intensify operations to ensure safety across the North-West,” he stated.
He also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely information to support ongoing military efforts.
