Ondo Police Rescue Abducted Woman, Recover Stolen Vehicle After Gunfight
Owo, Ondo State — The Ondo State Police Command has successfully rescued a 61-year-old woman, Modupe Oladele, who was abducted by armed men in Owo. Law enforcement officers also recovered her vehicle following a gun battle with the suspects.
In a statement released Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abayomi Jimoh reported that Oladele was kidnapped in the early hours of June 23, 2026, when armed assailants invaded her home. The perpetrators reportedly stole her Toyota Matrix, which bears the registration number WWW-434-AG.
Responding to a distress call, police operatives launched a coordinated pursuit and intercepted the suspects near Ojana Phase 3. During the encounter, the assailants fled into nearby bushland, with some believed to have sustained injuries from gunfire.
At the scene, law enforcement recovered two expended cartridges, a sandal likely belonging to one of the suspects, and a flashlight. Jimoh noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects, some of whom may be injured.
Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu praised the quick response of the operatives and encouraged residents to continue providing reliable information to aid in the fight against crime in the region.
