Interfaith dialogue only path to addressing Nigeria’s insecurity – Tinubu

President Tinubu Advocates for Interfaith Dialogue to Combat Insecurity

ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasized the importance of dialogue among religious groups as a crucial strategy to address insecurity and promote peaceful coexistence in Nigeria. His remarks came Saturday during a meeting with Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, at the Presidential residence.

Tinubu affirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with religious leaders to foster peace, harmony, and tolerance throughout the nation. “Interfaith dialogue is the only path to addressing the country’s security challenges,” he stated.

The President called on leaders from both Christian and Muslim communities to persist in advocating for peace, asserting that Nigeria can never have too much peace and tolerance. “My administration will continue to work on religious harmony among all faiths,” he said. “Our bishops and religious leaders have been doing a great deal. Please tell them to continue the good work they are doing.”

In discussing national security, Tinubu noted that the military has made substantial progress in combatting criminal organizations. He highlighted ongoing investments in security operations and surveillance, particularly in areas that have been historically ungoverned. Additionally, he mentioned that the government is focusing on youth engagement to diminish their susceptibility to recruitment by terrorist groups.
