Wike Addresses Conflict with Imo Governor
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has clarified what he believes to be the underlying reasons for the conflict between him and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma.
In an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ on Tuesday, Wike claimed that certain governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received financial support from Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, but they failed to secure a second term for him.
Wike noted that these governors have been resistant to forming what they label a “rainbow coalition.” He remarked that Uzodinma, despite being the governor, did not garner even 10% of the votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from Imo State. He highlighted a similar trend in Ebonyi State, suggesting a pattern of electoral challenges facing the APC in these regions.
“This ongoing conflict has historical roots that date back to the ministerial appointments,” Wike stated. “APC governors are displeased with my appointment as Minister of the FCT. During the political crisis with my governor, they misled him, which contributed to the inability to secure a second term for his administration.”
Wike further questioned the implications of the so-called “Rainbow Coalition,” asking, “Did this coalition play a role in the APC’s victories in National Assembly elections in Ebonyi, Abia, and Enugu States, where the President received less than ten percent of the votes?”
