Benue: Two police officers killed as gunmen ambush Ayilamo DPO’s entourage

Two Mobile Police officers were killed in an ambush while escorting the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ayilamo Police Division back to the community in Logo Local Government Area, Benue State. The attack occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday, September 14, as the officers were returning from Makurdi.
This incident marks the sixth police casualty in Ayilamo in just four days, following the deaths of four Mobile Police officers on Thursday, September 10, when armed attackers targeted the community.
Peter Aondongu, spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, confirmed the attack to journalists in Makurdi on Tuesday. He stated that the officers were ambushed while on their way back to Ayilamo, resulting in the deaths of two personnel. The identities of the deceased officers have not been released.
Local residents suggested that the attackers may have been armed herders operating from nearby forests and abandoned settlements in the Tombo Council Ward area. Community members expressed growing concerns about the presence of armed individuals in the region and called for security agencies to enhance operations to prevent further violence and protect both residents and law enforcement personnel.
