World Cup 2026: Iker Casillas reacts as Morocco goalkeeper, Bounou saves Mbappe’s penalty
Iker Casillas Praises Morocco’s Yassine Bounou for Penalty Save Against France
Former Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas has commended Morocco’s Yassine Bounou for his acrobatic save of a penalty kick taken by Kylian Mbappe during Thursday’s World Cup quarter-final. The match took place at Boston Stadium in Foxborough.
In the first half, Morocco’s Noussair Mazraoui was penalized for bringing down Mbappe inside the box, resulting in the critical opportunity for France to score. However, Bounou denied the French captain, maintaining Morocco’s hopes for an upset.
Casillas reacted to the save on social media platform X, exclaiming, “Mamma mia Bono!”
Bounou has proven to be a formidable presence in goal, saving four of the nine penalties he has faced in World Cup matches, including shootouts. Of the remaining attempts, three were directed off-target.
Despite Bounou’s impressive performance, France emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.
