ACF hails northern governors’ Security Trust Fund initiative

Arewa Consultative Forum Hails Northern Security Trust Fund Initiative

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has praised the establishment of the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund by the Forum of Northern States Governors, calling it a significant regional initiative. The ACF labeled the fund a landmark initiative aimed at mobilizing additional resources to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of violent crime that have plagued Northern Nigeria.

In a statement, the ACF emphasized that the initiative demonstrates the governors’ collective commitment to addressing the region’s persistent security challenges.

“This reflects a clear recognition by the governors that the security crisis facing Northern Nigeria requires coordinated action, innovative solutions, and sustained commitment to complement the efforts of the Federal Government and the nation’s security agencies,” the forum stated.

Bashir M. Dalhatu, chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, issued a statement from Kaduna on Friday, noting that the North, once known for its peaceful communities and vibrant agricultural economy, has been marred by violence from terrorists and armed criminal groups.

“Restoring peace and security is therefore the indispensable foundation upon which every other aspiration for economic recovery, social progress, and national development must rest,” Dalhatu said.

He added that, if managed effectively and adequately supported, the Northern Nigeria Security Trust Fund could provide the financial resources necessary to enhance intelligence gathering, surveillance, logistics, and community-based security initiatives.

The ACF reiterated its support for ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and rebuild Northern Nigeria, highlighting the hardships endured by residents in the region.

“The people deserve to live in peace, cultivate their farms without fear, conduct their businesses safely, and look to the future with genuine confidence and hope,” the forum concluded.
