BBNaija not made to distract Nigerian youths – Director, Kayode

Big Brother Naija Director Addresses Distraction Allegations
Gbenga Kayode, the director of the popular reality show Big Brother Naija, has dismissed allegations suggesting that the program was designed to distract Nigerians, particularly the youth, during critical periods such as elections.
Critics have raised concerns that the show serves as a diversion for viewers amid political events. In a recent episode of the CreativiTea podcast, Kayode responded to these claims, asserting that the show’s intention is not political in nature.
“We never approach Big Brother Naija from the angle of politics or distraction. Those assumptions are unfounded,” Kayode said. “The concept revolves around placing individuals in a controlled environment and observing their interactions and reactions, which is entirely separate from any political agenda.”
Additionally, Kayode countered accusations that Big Brother Naija contributes to a culture of illiteracy, known as the “Olodo uprising.” He pointed out that all past winners of the competition are graduates, emphasizing the educational backgrounds of participants.
The director’s remarks aim to clarify misconceptions surrounding the show’s influence and purpose.
