IPOB Delegation Meets with Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem
JERUSALEM — A delegation from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was officially received by Israeli lawmakers in Jerusalem. The meeting marked a significant step in IPOB’s diplomatic efforts on the international stage.
The delegation, led by Mazi Chris Nwaogu, head of the Directorate of State, met with Deputy Speaker Nissim Vaturi and Deputy Chairman Limor Son Har-Melech, who also serves on the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee.
In a statement from IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful, the group expressed gratitude for the reception, calling it a milestone in their peaceful diplomatic outreach. “This historic engagement marks a significant milestone in IPOB’s peaceful international diplomatic outreach,” the statement said.
IPOB thanked the Knesset for its warm reception, describing the discussions as productive. The organization emphasized the shared history between the Jewish people of Israel and the Biafran people, referencing mutual experiences of persecution and displacement.
“The Jewish and Biafran peoples share deep historical affinities forged through persecution, discrimination, displacement, and existential threats,” the statement continued. “Israel’s rebirth in 1948 remains an enduring inspiration.”
IPOB stated that its goal is the restoration of Biafra as an independent state, which they believe is essential for providing security for vulnerable minorities in Nigeria. They claimed that an independent Biafra would facilitate peace and stability in the region by adhering to recognized human rights and self-determination principles.
Following the meeting, IPOB announced plans to continue similar diplomatic advocacy in the United States and other nations. They expressed their commitment to lawful diplomacy and peaceful engagement, asserting that no external pressures can diminish their pursuit of freedom.
“We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to non-violent struggle, the rule of law, and constructive international engagement,” the group stated.
IPOB concluded their statement with thanks to the Israeli government and the Knesset for their support of justice and human rights.
