‘We won’t accept foot soldiers arrested while masterminds walk free’ — Sowore

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has criticized the Ekiti State Police Command for what he perceives as a failure to pursue the alleged orchestrators of an attack on him and his team in Ado-Ekiti. This statement follows the police’s announcement that they had arrested 11 suspects in connection to the incident.
In a statement released on the social media platform X, Sowore emphasized the need for law enforcement to identify and apprehend those accused of planning, financing, and coordinating the assault, which he characterized as an assassination attempt carried out by government-sponsored thugs. He argued that the arrest of the 11 individuals indicates that the dispute was more than just a routine altercation, a characterization the police had initially made.
Sowore has called for a thorough investigation into the suspects, some of whom, he claims, are affiliated with a local group known as the City Boys. He expressed concern regarding potential connections between these suspects and officials within the Ekiti State Government.
Additionally, Sowore urged Ekiti Commissioner of Police Falade Adegoroye Michael and the Department of State Services (DSS) to secure and release any CCTV footage from the incident to aid in identifying those involved. He questioned the police’s earlier characterization of the event as a mere altercation, given the subsequent arrests.
“We will not accept the arrest of foot soldiers while the masterminds walk free,” Sowore stated. He has called for an independent investigation and the prosecution of all individuals implicated by the evidence, including those he alleges sponsored and coordinated the attack.
