Air Peace Suspends Flights to Benin Airport Amid Runway Closure
Air Peace has announced the suspension of all flights to and from Benin Airport following the closure of the airport’s runway due to a runway incursion.
In a statement released Thursday, the airline indicated that this decision affects all scheduled operations at the airport. The suspension was deemed necessary due to circumstances beyond the airline’s control, and they expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to travelers.
“Air Peace wishes to inform its valued customers and the general public that all flights to and from Benin Airport have been temporarily suspended today following the closure of the airport’s runway due to a runway incursion,” the statement read. It further acknowledged the disruption and appealed for patience as airport authorities work to restore normal operations.
The runway closure follows an incident involving an Enugu Air Embraer E170 aircraft, which was operating Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin. The aircraft overran the end of Runway 05 while landing at Benin Airport on Thursday.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into the incident. Officials confirmed that all 63 passengers and five crew members on board the aircraft were safely accounted for, with no injuries reported.
NSIB stated that a preliminary report on the incident will be issued within 30 days, adhering to regulatory requirements.
