RABAT — Chiamaka Nnadozie, goalkeeper for Nigeria’s Super Falcons, has asserted that the team has put their recent defeat against Malawi behind them and is now concentrating on their upcoming match against Zambia.
The Falcons, reigning champions, faced an unexpected 3-2 loss to Malawi in their opening Group B match at Al Madina Stadium on Tuesday night. To advance in the tournament, Nigeria must secure a victory against Zambia on Saturday.
Nnadozie expressed a sense of optimism within the squad in a press conference. “The feeling is good; everybody is happy. The past is in the past. We are focused on the next game. The spirit is very high, and we will fight to get maximum points,” she stated.
The goalkeeper addressed concerns regarding the team’s performance against Malawi, emphasizing that such outcomes are part of football. “This is football; sometimes you win, sometimes you lose,” she said. Following the match, Nnadozie publicly apologized to Nigerian fans on social media for her performance.
“That doesn’t make us a bad team, nor does it make me a bad player. We must keep our heads high and do what we do best,” Nnadozie added. She acknowledged that mistakes are a part of the sport, stressing the importance of learning from them. “I have to keep my head down and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
