Indian Pace Bowler Jasprit Bumrah Ruled Out of Sri Lanka Series Due to Injury

Published: August 3, 2026

India’s cricket board, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced that pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah will miss the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka as he continues to recover from a left knee injury. The injury, sustained during a one-day international match against England in Cardiff last month, has caused ongoing discomfort, prompting the 32-year-old to withdraw from the squad.

In place of Bumrah, the BCCI has called up uncapped fast bowler Auqib Nabi. The 29-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir received his first senior team selection following a successful domestic season, where he claimed 104 wickets across the past two Ranji Trophy seasons. His standout performance included 60 wickets in the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season, contributing significantly to his team’s first title victory. Nabi also showcased his talent during India A’s tour of Sri Lanka from June to July, where he took six wickets in two first-class matches.

Nabi’s promotion marks a historic moment as he becomes the first cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for the senior Test side.

The BCCI also noted that batter Sai Sudharsan’s participation in the series remains dependent on fitness clearance.

The series will kick off in Galle on August 15, with the second Test set to take place in Colombo on August 23.

India Squad for Sri Lanka Tour:
Shubman Gill (captain), KL Rahul (vice captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Sai Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, and Auqib Nabi.
