North-Central APC Forum Urges First-Term Governors to Enhance Performance Ahead of 2027 Elections
The North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum is calling on first-term governors from the party to improve their performance as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. The forum believes that heightened efforts by these governors will be crucial for the party’s success in the upcoming election.
In a statement released Sunday by the forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, the call came after a consultative meeting in Abuja. The forum emphasized that effective governance is essential for securing re-election.
Among the first-term governors from the region who are seeking re-election are Ahmed Ododo of Kogi, Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Mohammad Bago of Niger, and Caleb Muftwang of Plateau. The governors of Kwara and Nasarawa, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Abdullahi Sule, respectively, are completing their second terms.
The North-Central APC Forum expressed a desire for the party to maintain control of all states in the zone post-2027 and indicated that the future success of the first-term governors will be integral to that goal. The forum urged these leaders to focus on delivering tangible benefits to their constituents as the election approaches.
“We urge the first-term governors in the North-Central to step up in their duties as the elections draw closer,” Zazzaga stated. “As leaders of the party in their respective states, they must work towards ensuring that the North-Central remains under APC control.”
The forum acknowledged the significant achievements made by Bago and Muftwang in their states. It cited improvements in security, economic growth through modern agriculture, and workforce welfare as key areas where their governance has excelled.
In Niger State, Bago’s administration has initiated major infrastructure projects, including a 1,000-kilometer road network and a solar farm, while Muftwang’s administration in Plateau State has focused on various infrastructure and tourism initiatives, such as the remodeling of local hospitality venues.
The forum highlighted that these accomplishments could bolster the APC’s chances in the forthcoming election. They also expressed confidence in achieving a goal of delivering six million votes from the North-Central to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, a commitment reaffirmed since the forum endorsed the President for a second term in December 2024.
