Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim Undergoing Medical Observation
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is undergoing medical evaluations and a procedure, with officials stating he will remain under observation for two days.
On Monday, Senior Press Secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah confirmed that Anwar was receiving medical checks based on recommendations from specialists. No specific details regarding the nature of the procedure were disclosed.
“Let us pray that all matters relating to YAB Prime Minister’s examinations and procedures are made easier and that he is blessed with lasting good health so that he can return to fulfilling his duties as usual in the near future, God willing,” Tunku Nashrul stated.
The announcement coincides with Anwar’s 79th birthday. He was born on August 10, 1947, and has held the position of prime minister since November 2022.
In January, Anwar underwent a routine medical examination, during which doctors assessed him to be in good health and capable of continuing his official duties.
Anwar has a history of medical issues, having previously received treatment for back and shoulder conditions. In June 2018, he required hospitalization due to shoulder and back pain, which led to spinal surgery in Istanbul the following month. He was also slated for surgery on his right shoulder due to a rotator cuff injury.
As of now, there is no indication that Monday’s procedure is related to his previous medical conditions.
