Nigerian musician David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has urged U.S. President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, scheduled for August 15. Davido’s appeal was made via a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, coinciding with an election town hall organized by Arise Television.
The artist expressed concern over potential violence, intimidation, and other disruptions to the electoral process, emphasizing the need for heightened international attention. “Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he stated.
Davido specifically addressed the need for measures to prevent violence during the election, reiterating a desire for peace and transparency in the electoral process. “We do not want bloodshed. We want a free and fair election,” he added.
The singer’s appeal comes ahead of Saturday’s election, in which incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, his uncle, is seeking re-election amid competition from multiple political parties. The lead-up to the election has seen intensified political activity, with candidates and supporters campaigning vigorously.
Davido concluded his statement by tagging Trump, once again urging the necessity of a peaceful electoral process and the protection of voters. “Every voter must be protected, and every vote must be respected,” he asserted.
