2027: Rivers ADC vows to resist intimidation after threats against members
The Rivers State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pledged to resist any form of intimidation within the state.
In a statement released Thursday, Luckyman Egila, the party’s spokesman in Rivers State, condemned a viral video featuring Mr. Samuel Wanosike, who allegedly issued threats against the ADC’s members and cautioned against political gatherings in the Ikwerre Local Government Area and beyond.
Egila described the threats as reckless and provocative, characterizing them as a serious affront to democracy.
“Rivers State is not a jungle, and no individual or political group has the authority to decide where law-abiding citizens may assemble or conduct legitimate political activities,” he stated.
He further asserted that the ADC would not be intimidated or silenced. “The era of harassment and violence against political opponents must remain in the past. No one has a monopoly over Rivers State, and no one is above the law, regardless of political affiliation or office,” Egila added.
The ADC intends to continue its activities, including meetings and member mobilization, across all 23 local government areas in Rivers State.
In the statement, Egila called on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and other relevant security agencies to investigate Wanosike’s remarks and take appropriate measures to prevent any potential threats from escalating into violence.
