FCT police chief narrates how one-chance robbers robbed officer’s wife

Police Commissioner Details Arrest of Suspected Robbery Syndicate in Abuja
The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ahmed Sanusi, announced the arrest of eight individuals believed to be members of a robbery syndicate in Abuja. The suspects are accused of targeting the wife of a police officer in a brazen incident captured during a press conference at the command’s headquarters on Tuesday.
According to Sanusi, the victim hailed a taxi at the AYA Roundabout, unaware that it was operated by members of the criminal group. Once inside, the suspects allegedly stole her mobile phone and transferred all funds from her bank account to theirs before releasing her.
Following the victim’s report, Sanusi instructed the command’s tracking unit to begin a thorough investigation. Utilizing digital forensic technology, the police were able to reconstruct the suspects’ activities, trace electronic transactions, and track the victim’s mobile device, ultimately leading to the apprehension of the eight suspects.
The individuals have been identified as Yunusa Sani, Ismail Mohammed, Abubakar Usman, Haruna Musa, Abdulrazaq Mohammed, Isah Abdulrahman, Isa Abdullahi, and Aliyu Shuaibu. Further investigations into the case resulted in the recovery of 21 mobile phones and three laptops, including the victim’s device.
Sanusi highlighted that one of the suspects, Haruna Musa, was involved in altering the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of stolen devices to facilitate their resale while avoiding detection. The police have also identified additional individuals suspected of receiving the stolen items.
The suspects remain in custody, and authorities plan to file charges once investigations are completed. In addition to this case, several other suspects were presented by the FCT Police Command for various offenses, notably armed robbery.
Commissioner Sanusi urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies. He encouraged the public to promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contact lines.
