BREAKING: Atiku asks court to disqualify Tinubu over NYSC certificate
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has filed a petition with the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking the disqualification of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the 2027 presidential election.
Abubakar’s legal action stems from allegations that Tinubu submitted a forged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The plaintiffs in the case argue that the document in question carries the name “Tinubu Bola Adekunle,” which they assert is inconsistent with the President’s official name, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The court is being asked to determine whether this discrepancy in the certificate undermines Tinubu’s qualifications to participate in the upcoming election. Additionally, the suit questions certain provisions in the Electoral Act of 2026 related to the eligibility of presidential candidates.
