Contractor goes into hiding as 3-storey building collapses in Abia
The contractor for a three-story building in the Umuozue area of Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area, Abia State, has reportedly gone into hiding following the collapse of the structure early Thursday morning.
The building, located at 7 Chima Otuka Street, fell at approximately 3 a.m., just eight hours after construction workers concluded their shift the previous evening. The incident also caused damage to a vehicle and other belongings of a tenant in a neighboring property.
As of now, government agencies have not determined the cause of the collapse. However, some residents indicated that parapet work had been completed on the building the previous evening.
In response to the incident, officials from the Osisioma Ngwa town planning office have sealed off the construction site to facilitate a thorough investigation.
