Police foil bandits’ attack, rescue kidnap victims in Katsina
KATSINA, Nigeria – The Katsina State Police Command has successfully thwarted an attack by suspected bandits in Fulalawa village, located in the Musawa Local Government Area. During the incident, which occurred on August 13, 2026, police were able to rescue multiple kidnapping victims and retrieve two abandoned motorcycles.
Police spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu provided details in a statement released on Friday. He reported that the Musawa Police Division received an emergency call around 11:30 a.m. indicating that armed bandits were assaulting the village while wielding dangerous weapons.
According to Aliyu, the assailants ransacked local shops, abducted several residents, and stole livestock before the police could respond.
A joint security team was deployed to the scene, where the bandits opened fire upon noticing their presence. “On sighting the team, the bandits opened fire. The joint team responded with superior tactics and firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon their captives and flee into nearby bushes with suspected gunshot injuries,” Aliyu said.
All the kidnapped individuals were reportedly rescued unharmed and have since been reunited with their families. The two operational motorcycles left behind by the fleeing bandits were also recovered at the location of the attack.
Authorities continue to pursue the fleeing suspects in efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attack.
