Nigerians scoop fuel as tanker spills content on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway


NIGERIA—A significant number of residents gathered Saturday near the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to collect fuel that had spilled from a tanker near the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road.

Local residents, including women and children, rushed to the scene with buckets, jerrycans, and other containers to scoop up the spilled fuel, despite the inherent dangers of fire or explosion in such situations.

Emergency personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Fire Service quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and mitigate risks associated with the spillage. They worked to secure the area and prevent further hazards, as gatherings of onlookers continued despite the responders’ efforts.

The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of fuel safety and the potential dangers posed by such occurrences on busy roadways.
