One feared dead, another injured in Yobe as assailants attack herders

Damagum Attack Results in Fatality During Animal Theft Attempt
DAMAGUM, Yobe State — An attack by unidentified assailants has left one individual dead and another injured in the Damagum Local Government Area of Yobe State amid an alleged conspiracy to steal domestic animals.
The incident, reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, occurred on February 8 around 11:00 a.m. Two men, identified as Adamu Joldi Dajjo, 25, and Yuse Buba, 20, both residents of Yola Hamlet in Shanga Village, reportedly attempted to steal two rams in the bush area of Abakire Village using a Kasea motorcycle.
As they passed through Gununu Village at approximately 3:00 p.m., the pair was ambushed by three men dressed in black and armed with dane guns. During the assault, Yuse Buba suffered gunshot wounds to his right hand, while Adamu Joldi Dajjo was shot in the back and face. The attackers fled the scene with their motorcycle.
Joldi was transported to General Hospital in Damagum, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. Buba has since been referred to Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu for further treatment. Joldi’s body was returned to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic traditions.
Law enforcement officials who responded to the scene recovered one live ram and one slaughtered ram, which will be documented as evidence for the investigation. Police are currently working to identify and apprehend the attackers, and a preliminary investigation is underway.
