US begins fresh training for Nigerian military 

The United States military has initiated a new round of training for the Nigerian Armed Forces, according to a report released by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) on August 24, 2026.

This training program aims to enhance the Nigerian military’s capabilities in combat scenarios, the operation of unmanned aircraft systems, and responses to various security threats. AFRICOM emphasized that this initiative also seeks to improve collaboration between U.S. and Nigerian armed forces.

The training is taking place at Operating Location Bauchi as part of a broader U.S.-Nigeria security cooperation initiative. AFRICOM detailed that the activities are designed to transfer military expertise, bolster the capacity of Nigerian forces, and foster improved coordination among service members from both nations.

Specific areas of focus in the training include Combat Lifesaver and Tactical Combat Casualty Care, weapons familiarization, camouflage techniques, water treatment and testing, explosive ordnance disposal, small-unit tactics, and unmanned aircraft system training.

“The U.S. and Nigerian forces are conducting a series of training events at Operating Location Bauchi, Nigeria, aimed at sharing military expertise, strengthening partner capacity, and building relationships between service members from both nations,” AFRICOM said in its statement.
