Anambra man hires assassins to kill friend after duping him in fake land deal

Police Uncover Details of Awkuzu Murder Case
The Anambra State Police Command has revealed new details surrounding the murder of 56-year-old Kelechi Madu in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area. Madu, who had been reported missing, was found deceased after an investigation indicated that his death was orchestrated by a friend.
According to a press release by police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, Madu’s friend, 32-year-old Ifeanyi Nwankwo, was arrested and reportedly confessed to conspiring to murder Madu following a fraudulent financial transaction. Authorities allege that Nwankwo deceived Madu into paying for a non-existent property.
Ikenga stated that Madu’s wife initially reported him missing on August 18, 2026, after he failed to return home the previous evening. Immediately, police officers, in collaboration with local vigilante groups and family members, began a search for Madu.
Later that day, Madu’s wife returned to the police station visibly distressed, indicating that her husband’s body had been discovered in a nearby bush in Umuobi, Awkuzu. Police arrived at the scene to find Madu deceased from a severe axe wound to the head.
While interrogating Nwankwo, investigators learned he allegedly procured money from Madu under false pretenses, claiming he would help facilitate the purchase of land. To further conceal the fraudulent activity, Nwankwo reportedly hired two accomplices to carry out the murder.
Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be expanded to apprehend all individuals involved in the conspiracy and killing. The police command emphasized its commitment to bringing all perpetrators to justice and enhancing community safety through intelligence-led policing and cooperative efforts to combat violent crime.
