One Arrested Following Armed Attack at Fagersta High School
FAGERSTA, Sweden — Local authorities confirmed that one person has been taken into custody following an attack at Brinellskolan, a high school in central Sweden, where several individuals were injured by an assailant armed with a sword.
In a statement released Friday, the Fagersta municipality reported that the suspect entered the school and inflicted injuries on multiple victims. Swedish police responded to reports of ongoing violence at the scene, confirming the arrest of the assailant.
Authorities are employing a range of resources to secure the area, and have urged the public to adhere to roadblocks and follow police instructions. The municipality has not disclosed the exact number of injured individuals but indicated that a search of the school is underway. Additionally, other schools in the vicinity have been placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Witnesses reported that police officers shot the assailant in the leg during the incident, according to Aftonbladet, a local newspaper. Emergency services, including ambulances and police helicopters, have been deployed to the site, which is located in a city with a population of approximately 12,000.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer commented on the situation, stating that the government is closely monitoring developments. “We have been informed of a serious incident in Fagersta. The police are on site and are working very intensively on the incident. The government is in close contact with the police and is monitoring developments on an ongoing basis,” he said.
