2027: Benue govt warns against destruction of public utilities, billboards

The Benue State Government has issued a warning against the destruction of public utilities and billboards, emphasizing that individuals caught vandalizing these assets will face legal consequences.

Chief Solomon Iorpev, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, made the announcement in a statement on Monday. His comments followed reports of what the government characterized as intentional damage to public infrastructure and signage by suspected vandals.

Iorpev described those responsible for the acts as “criminal and retrogressive elements” intent on undermining the progress of the administration led by Governor Hyacinth Alia. He stressed that anyone found guilty of vandalism, irrespective of their motives, would be held accountable according to the law.

In response to the growing threat, the state government has formed a task force dedicated to monitoring, protecting, and securing public utilities and billboards across Benue. This task force has been instructed to work alongside security agencies to identify and apprehend those involved in the destruction of public assets and to ensure that they are prosecuted.

Iorpev reiterated the Alia administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding both public and private investments that contribute to the state’s growth and development. He assured residents, investors, and stakeholders of the government’s readiness to defend legitimate activities against criminal interference.

The commissioner urged citizens to remain watchful and to report any suspicious activities around public installations to security agencies or the task force.

“This administration will not stand idly by while criminal elements destroy public assets and disrupt the peace and progress of our state,” Iorpev stated. He confirmed that the full resources of the government would be deployed to address such actions and that offenders would be prosecuted without bias.
