E-transmission: Senator Monguno moves to reverse Senate decision

Senator Proposes Reconsideration of Electoral Act Clause
Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno moved a motion in the Senate on Tuesday to reverse a previous decision regarding Clause 60(3) of the Electoral Act Repeal and Enactment Bill.
During an emergency plenary session, Monguno reminded his colleagues that the bill was initially passed by the Senate on February 4, 2026. He highlighted emerging concerns related to the clause, which addresses the method of transmitting election results. Monguno underscored the need for thorough deliberation to ensure that elections are conducted in a credible and transparent manner.
“In light of recent developments, this clause merits reconsideration to facilitate smooth and reliable electoral processes across the country,” he stated.
Citing provisions from Orders 1B and 52-6 of the amended Senate Standing Orders 2023, Monguno called for the rescission of the earlier decision on Clause 60(3) and its recommitment for further evaluation and potential passage.
Monguno elaborated that the motion follows a debate over whether the clause should specify “transfer” or “transmission” of election results electronically. He noted that his earlier proposal to retain the existing Act prompted this amendment initiative.
