No part of Benue will be given to herders – Alia
Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the state’s territories from encroachment by herders during a recent statewide tour. Speaking to stakeholders from the Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo and Kwande/Ushongo Jechira federal constituencies on Monday, Alia emphasized the government’s determination to address insecurity and safeguard the ancestral lands of Benue communities.
During his address, Alia expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for initiatives aimed at enhancing the state’s security infrastructure. He highlighted the establishment of the Nigerian Army 5 Division in Benue as a pivotal measure to bolster security and improve the state’s ability to respond to challenges.
The governor also committed to working closely with traditional leaders to foster peace, resolve disputes, and engage communities in sustainable development. His visit to Sankera included discussions with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and political representatives, culminating in a call from the Tor Sankera, HRH David Sevav, for increased efforts toward restoring peace in the region.
In addition, Sevav advocated for the rehabilitation of local waterworks and a reconsideration of the representation of Sankera indigenes in government appointments.
In Kwande, Alia convened separate meetings with traditional and religious leaders, urging continued unity and collaboration to advance the state’s goals. He commended local leaders for their peacebuilding contributions and called on religious figures to maintain their influence in promoting harmony among residents.
At a town hall meeting with political stakeholders, Alia emphasized the importance of prioritizing the collective interests of Benue over individual political ambitions, encouraging cooperation to enhance the accomplishments of his administration.
Similar engagements took place in Jechira, with Alia reiterating the necessity of unity and active participation in the state’s development. Former Governor Gabriel Suswam, who accompanied Alia during his Sankera visit, praised the administration for its infrastructure initiatives and expressed support for Alia’s and Tinubu’s re-election bids.
Solomon Wombo, the member representing Sankera Federal Constituency, called for increased political unity and grassroots mobilization to support the current administration. APC State Chairman Benjamin Omale commended community stakeholders for their support and urged them to remain united as the 2027 elections approach.
Moses Ternenge, an APC chieftain in Kwande, also assured continued support for Alia, Tinubu, and the party’s candidates in the upcoming elections.
