Igboho resists attempt by police to arrest Tani Olohun in Oyo
Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, intervened on Tuesday to prevent the arrest of Abdulazeez Adegbola, also known as Tani Olohun, who advocates for Isese, the indigenous Yoruba religion.
Footage posted on Adegbola’s Facebook page depicted a confrontation between local residents and police officers attempting to detain him. One video appeared to show an officer pinning Adegbola to the ground while onlookers gathered.
During the attempted arrest, a bystander claimed that the police vehicle lacked a license plate.
As tensions heightened, Adegbola’s family reached out to Igboho, who arrived at the scene accompanied by several supporters. In another video, Igboho was seen on the phone with an apparent senior official, while surrounded by the crowd.
Igboho reported the presence of four officers at the scene and cautioned that the situation could escalate into a confrontation. He subsequently handed his phone to one of the officers at the official’s request.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, but did not offer further details. “I don’t have a comment. A press release is coming soon,” Olayinka stated.
