Five arrested after 20-year-old dies in Bauchi youth clash

Bauchi State Police have arrested five individuals in connection with a violent altercation that led to the death of a 20-year-old man in Bauchi metropolis.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 26, in the Anguwan Makafi area. The victim, identified as Adamu Abdullahi, also known as Baba Budi, was reportedly stabbed in the left shoulder outside a shop. This act of violence ignited a confrontation between youth from Anguwan Makafi and their counterparts from Anguwan Yola.
According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Nafiu Habib, officers from C Division were swiftly deployed to the scene following the report. The police were able to disperse the crowd and restore order to prevent the situation from escalating further.
“The victim was immediately taken to the Specialist Hospital in Bauchi for medical assistance, but was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival by the attending physician,” Habib said.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Bashir Idris, also referred to as Mado; Musa Dahiru; Marwan Mustapha, known as Degree; Aliyu Dahiru, or Jida Kanka; and Bashir Aliyu, commonly called Bash.
Another individual, identified as Aliyu Ibrahim, sustained injuries during the incident and is currently in stable condition at the Specialist Hospital.
The police have confirmed that photographs of the deceased were taken before his body was released to his family for burial. To ensure safety in the area, police patrol teams have been dispatched to prevent further incidents.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the act and mandated a thorough investigation. He also cautioned residents against engaging in jungle justice or retaliatory attacks, urging them to remain calm and assist law enforcement by providing useful information.
Ongoing investigations are expected to determine the next steps, and the suspects will face charges in court following the inquiry’s conclusion. The police stated that further updates would be shared with the public in due course.
